Purpose:

Named for a distinctive rufous-colored oligochaete discovered here during plankton sampling, work began at this lake because of it original proximity to planned GMT2 site. Well connected and supporting abundant grayling and whitefish populations. This site was also part of the Circum-Arctic Lake Observation Network (CALON) from 2012-2015.
